I have often wondered about this also.
Another thing that I was wondering about is that you can only last three weeks without food, yet Jesus almost did double that. How? I know that Jesus is God so He can do anything, but He was still also fully human.

Of course he drank water. Otherwise he would have died. It says Jesus fasted in the desert. It doesn't say he completely and totally abstained from food.
When you are fasting during Lent, do you stop eating entirely? No, you just eat less.

The human body can go about 5 days without water before dying.

The Catholic Church fasts used to involve completely fasting even from water. Muslims also fast from water during the Ramadan fast.

Yes, but they have a meal after sundown, which presumably includes a drink. They don't go for the whole of Ramadan without a drink. Nor did Catholics go the whole of Lent without a drink in the old days. Incidentally, where is the source for olden days Catholic fasts including water? |

The point is, all "fasting" has to be put in context by type and time period. There is fasting that consists of limiting (types of) food to (a) specific time period(s) in a day for one or more days. And then there is fasting (more properly called abstaining) that consists of completely eliminating a particular kind of food from the diet for a time while allowing other kinds of nourishment.
